Wadmalaw Island - A Tree, Vodka and Tea

Our first full day in Charleston opens to truly beautiful weather. Cindy's home is on St Johns Island and home to Angel Oak, the oldest Live Oak tree. I had heard about this tree from previous visits to this area and found it to be within five minutes of her home. We've seen many huge live oaks living in the south all of these years but this one is truly amazing.

Further out beautiful canopied roads, we visited Firefly Distillery, home of the famous Sweet Tea Vodka we sampled the evening prior. A pretty piece of property way out here, run by people who really love where they work. They couldn't have been nicer and more informative as we tasted six different varieties of their liquors. Besides the sweet tea, they offered a lemonade, as well as peach, raspberry and mint teas. They had several rums, as well. The unflavored version of vodka was quite good also and a purchase of that and the lemonade made its way into our Vue.

Just a bit further on, we came across the only tea plantation in the country, partnered with Firefly, of course. Another very pretty spot and again encountering delightful people. There were several tours offered, including a red trolley tour of the grounds. We opted to just meander the beautiful grounds, sipping the sweet peach tea that was offered. I could have spent all afternoon just meandering through these three gems on Wadmalaw Island, but we had many adventures awaiting us this afternoon in downtown Charleston.
