Eagle

Quite efficiently, our crew loads our luggage from the Queen onto our waiting coach. It is a bit like Cinderella, at times, I guess.

While our wonderful guides ensure all is in order for the next leg of our journey, the travelers have an hour or so to take a peek at the population of 145 that is Eagle. We are greeted immediately by a young 14-year old, who articulately welcomes and lists our options for this brief stay.

A mock trial is one choice, and about half of us decide it's for us. We're escorted into the courtroom, where Celeste roll plays as judge. The black robe seems to indicate she's really missed her calling. A bit of history and our mock trial plays out. Our defendant is "released", his peers finding him decidedly "Not Guilty".

From here, we disperse, meandering in several directions (there are only several), exploring the fort, coastline, their little "mall", and some historical landmarks. We're fairly certainly none of us would want to call Eagle home for a lifetime, but the quick visit is still rewarding and eye opening in it's remoteness and what that clearly entails. The park ranger arrived 20 years ago to the post and today still feels fortunate to have never moved on. It is crystal clear that the stress level here seems to be non existent. Something to be said for that.
