Tracy Arm

After a beautiful evening of endless scenery heading through the passage and a day at sea further into the Pacific, we eagerly await our arrival into Tracy Arm. Because of tide restrictions, the ship is unable to sail back into this area but, fortunately, a small ship excursion is available, and we choose the option not to miss this little jewel.

Immediately after disembarking our large vessel, we begin the journey back into a wilderness wonderland. Small glacier drifts frame the opening of this bliss, and we are instantly aware of how pristine and remote this fjord is going to be. Alaska is welcoming fully!! A momma black bear and her two cubs say hello has we venture forward and an amazing waterfall is able to be viewed truly up close and personal. Even if the large ship had been able to get back here, we'd never get this close - we're very happy - this is definitely the way to see this gorgeous spot.

The floating icebergs become more plentiful as we delve further into the journey heading toward Sawyer Glacier. We happen upon a National Geographic ship and two other small ships as our captain expertly maneuvers our little boat through the ice. We gape in awe at the beautiful blue mountain of ice at the end of this cove. Seals frolic in the surrounding waterways and we are blessed with the sought after experience of watching a huge section of the glacier break away and plunge into the sea in front of us - it is exhilarating and we are very thankful to be in this heaven and managing to have this very private viewing. An Alaskan moment we've dreamed many times comes to fruition right before our eyes!

Our wonderful crew allows us ample opportunity to soak up this special time and we our eternally grateful. After savoring all we can, the retreat begins and we look back at the amazing gift for as long as we can. The return trip is still beautiful and we continue to marvel at the amazing beauty that abounds all around us. Another bear sighting seems appropriate and several eagles perch and soar at various points.

There is nothing like a small ship to truly give you the sense of wonder that exists in this great state. We highly recommend!
