Transportation today is by ferry, from Lewes, Delaware to Cape May, New Jersey. This is the way to travel! A hazy, sunny day is on the horizon and breathtaking views abound. The ferry is spacious, clean and very comfortable. Top deck bar serves Bloody Mary's for the ride as we say our final goodbye to Delaware and come into the Garden State!
Cape May is really lovely! We find a deli to prepare us a little picnic lunch for Cape May Point State Park. The famous lighthouse welcomes and the beach we find, once again, having virtually to ourselves. This pre-season travel is the only way to go!!
Dolphins dance in the Atlantic and clusters of geese form their amazing geometric formations in the beautiful blue sky. Everyone should see the shore for the first time this way.
The beach at Cape May is quite diverse. The end closest to the lighthouse brings memories of Clearwater Beach, Florida 30 years ago. Mom and Pop motels line the beach street with a boardwalk that stretches forever.
Mid-beach brings family entertainment, eateries and a true feel for yesteryear. The top end displays new, high-end inns and residences - picture perfect Cape May images! We linger for awhile on the quiet beach before heading toward the Garden State Parkway, gateway to the northwestern part of the state.
So far, the Jersey shore is not disappointing!
